Just ordinary people.

My head is full of superficial knowledge:
I know a bit about all kinds of things.
Sometimes I wonder if I know anything profoundly at all.

This is what I know about the man above,
who called himself Adolf Hitler:

Adolf was born as a illegitimate child in Austria, Braunau,
as Adolf Schickelgruber.
He fought as a soldier in World War I;
later on he took part in a rightist putsch attempt,
spent a year in a prison and wrote “Mein Kampf” there.

Hitler tried to get accepted at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna,
and he was denied admittance twice.

Adolf´s propaganda was masterly,
as documented for example by Leni Riefenstahl.

He initiated and is responsible for the outbreak of World War II,
the mass murder on the Jewish people,
his girlfriend was Eva Braun,
and he committed suicide in the year of 1945 in the “Führerbunker” in Berlin.

None of these sparse informations,
and I didn´t look into Wikipedia for this,
you will be able to extract out of any of the portraits you will ever see of him.

But you will always compare your knowledge,
with what you see on the photographs.
You will see an ordinary man with a mustache out of fashion now,
and you always will try to detect in those portraits of him the evil he stands for.

Your knowledge will change your interpretation of the images you see.

But in fact, all these images are just ordinary images of an ordinary man.

There are a lot of people who don’t care for others,
who are pushing you aside as if they wouldn’t have seen you,
there are a lot of people out there
who don’t have any inhibitions to inflict harm on their fellow men,
and they are also just ordinary people.

And some of this is accepted in society.
As it is accepted to send back refugees to their home countries
with no alternatives but poverty and starvation,
and somebody has to propose this, and somebody has to organize this,
and its demanded from bankers to sell their financial products
even if it’s the ruin of the customers, all those humans involved here,
are nothing but ordinary people.

And there are those who are declared evil or,
in more liberal terms, as sick,
because they act evil in a way that is socially is not accepted.

Adolf Hitler was an ordinary man
who got the extraordinary power to define the structures of German society.

Thus the system of concentrations camps became part of Germanys structure.
It was o.k. now to deport, rob and kill Jews,
as it is o.k. that the wealthy ones privatize their profits and let the people pay for investments turned sour.
Some structures you are born to,
and some you choose.

The structures you decide to be part of
will change your ways.

Be careful.
