In 1926 in the home of Károly Hilbert he made an acquaintance that had a decisive influence on all his life. He met there his future wife Fanni Gyarmati who was coached in mathematics by the wife of Hilbert.
All of the materials, texts and images,
I have copied from an excellent site dedicated to Radnóti Miklós.
My wife sees a poppy flower
and whistles to me across the road,
then bends down as I whistle back.
Two fingers glide down the furry stem,
then stop among the grass, and already
the fluttering flower is aflame in her hand.
I whistle once more; a joyful bird’s whistle
cuts into my own and she smiles.
With poppy-red let the world resound!
